In the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Harry lives in a cupboard under the stairs in the house of the Dursleys, his aunt, uncle, and cousin, who all treat him poorly. At the age of 11, Harry discovers that he is a wizard. He meets a half-giant named Hagrid, who gives him a letter of acceptance to attend the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Harry learns that his parents, Lily, and James Potter, also had magical powers and were murdered by the dark wizard Lord Voldemort when Harry was a baby. When Voldemort attempted to kill Harry, his curse rebounded, seemingly killing Voldemort, and Harry survived with a lightning-shaped scar on his forehead. The event made Harry famous among the community of wizards and witches.

Harry becomes a student at Hogwarts and is sorted into Gryffindor House. He gains the friendship of Ron Weasley, a large but poor wizarding family member, and Hermione Granger, a witch of non-magical, or Muggle, parentage. The trio develops an enmity with the rich, pure-blood student, Draco Malfoy.

Harry encounters the school's headmaster, Albus Dumbledore; the potions professor, Severus Snape, who dislikes him; and the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, Quirinus Quirrell. Quirrell turns out to be allied with Voldemort, who is still alive as a weak spirit. The first book concludes with Harry's confrontation with Voldemort, who, in his quest to regain a body, yearns to possess the Philosopher's Stone, a substance that bestows everlasting life.

It is revealed that Tom Riddle's memory was controlling Ginny, Voldemort's younger self, who resides in an old diary. Ginny's unwitting help opens the chamber, unleashing a dangerous creature called a basilisk. The basilisk can kill with direct eye contact and petrify with indirect eye contact. More importantly, we see Harry as a father — and his teenage son Albus’s efforts to cope with the suffocating expectations of having a famous father. “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” is about the journey Albus takes while growing up and the roles he and his best friend, Scorpius (Draco Malfoy’s son), play when dark forces, perhaps in league with Voldemort, once again threaten the fate of the planet.

This subject has been a part of both the natural and wizarding worlds. People have attempted to predict the future and understand their destinies through various methods, from using bones and shells thousands of years ago to reading teacups in Victorian England. The study of the night sky has also captivated people for centuries, from ancient Chinese star atlases to 17th-century Venetian celestial globes. Astronomy plays a significant role in the wizarding world, providing inspiration and identity in Harry Potter's life at Hogwarts and beyond.

Well-known folkloric creatures such as giants, dragons, merpeople, and lesser-known beings like Acromantula and Hippogriffs play a crucial role in Harry Potter's journey. In the past, naturalists and explorers traveled the globe to encounter weird and wonderful creatures that enhanced our knowledge of the world and advanced scientific development. However, it is part of human nature to want to believe in the unbelievable, starting from the bestiaries and cabinets of curiosities of the medieval period. Even though we believe that truth and myth can easily be distinguished today, magical creatures and the stories surrounding them continue to fascinate us, and they are as central to the Harry Potter stories as Harry, Hermione, and Ron.
